April 2008 HEALING MISSION
THE UNIVERSITY BIBLE FELOWSHIP (UBF) HEALING MISSION TEAM FROM THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA AND U.S.A TREATS PEOPLE IN WESTERN UGANDA.
By Benard Ikula (Research Coordinator, PARDI)
IT was yet another sigh of relief in February 2008 that the UBF Healing Mission Team came for the second time to Lyantonde, one of PARDI’s areas of operation to treat people from many diseases of which some would require on to travel abroad. In this out reach program, high profile qualified doctors and professors have helped the community relieve them from the persistent suffering, the usual transitional and emotional stresses that children go through due the diseases. According to a recent research conducted by PARDI's research team, an estimated 8,300 people have better health. However, PARDI has streamlined its response to health related problems to people who need special attention. PARDI's Counselors and field workers take the patients to the main big hospitals as soon as the person's health deteriorates.
It is known to the world community that an ill affected society or community plays a big role in under development and keeps it in absolute poverty and poor health situations pose a great risk to life. The continuous epidemics in our community such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, Tuberculosis, Waterborne diseases, Child abuse etc, have affected so much our community as people are ill and therefore unproductive. The mentioned diseases are so rampant and have increased the rate of deaths in our communities.
Inadequacy of health facilities is a crucial problem to our communities, Poverty, ignorance, inability to access the health centers among the rural community have has resulted into health problems in the community.
PARDI's response to Health is to raise awareness in the community on various diseases and works towards its prevention through:
-Lobbying for health partnering organizations and material support to prevent the epidemics, treatment, raising awareness on use of mosquito nets to curb down malaria infection among children and pregnant women who are more vulnerable to the disease.
-Planning to bring the services near to the poorer and most vulnerable communities
-To promote educational programs on hygiene in the community.
-Provision of good quality water tanks to the community.
-Champion the campaigns of community participation and development initiatives
We believe that the above outlined factors/health needs of people, should be given priority there would bring greater change in the general development of the communities at large.
However, to realize these changes, there is also need for support of any kind, partnership and networking which is highly needed as a joint effort to fight the obstacles towards development and improving the health standards of the local rural community.
This is our appeal to friends, well-wishers, Volunteers and especially those partners in development trend, the donor community, churches etc to join hands with PARDI's initiatives so as to serve its people. We shall be grateful to receive your response.
Our response as PARDI is to seek for support to help our people come out of suffering of any kind. Most of the house holds in our project area lack clean water and eventually use dirty water which is got from a few water sources and getting it means moving longer distances.
Development is a multi-dimensional phenomenon that calls for participation of different actors and stakeholders in and with specialized expertise or abilities to ensure achievement of intended goals of cooperation and development.
SPECIAL THANKS TO THE UBF.

August 2006 News Update: We are facing serious FOOD SCARCITY in 3 Orphanage Units. Just wanted to bring to your attention the fact that we are facing serious Food scarcity in 3 orphanage Units in Lyantonde. It has been shinning really hard- majority of our crops got scotched by the sun to the extent that they became completely stunted. Community members have been trying to donate whatever they could afford but their grannaries have dried up. We therefore urgently call upon everybody else out their who can contribute a grain or two to do so to save our children from starvation which is just around the corner. This is a very urgent and necessary request. Dear friends and intending volunteers and partners please spread this message to the world. We urgently need your support!
June 2006 Some sad news. Today we shall be barrying 1 kid and 1 grandmother in Kabula, this came in early this morning and that is really sad. In two units, over 42 kids of school-going age are lacking scholastic materials as well as school fees/dues. It has been shining really hard and most of the crops have been crippled and therefore many neighbouring families are facing food scarcity. Our orphans are facing lots of hardships, half-dresssed if not dressed, grab a single meal if not a cup of porridge a day and I have been sacrificing a lot to help out and some other members have been, but we can't do much alone b'se poverty is endemic, we live in an LDC, where poverty is at it's peak, has this world lost all the good people, nobody no longer cares about those in pain, the hopeless, the underprivileged, the disadvantaged, try to pass on this message to the world.
April 2006 This community is badly in need of food donations. Individuals or organizations that may be able to help, we need your support!
March 2006 I just left the field a few hours back. All is not well. -From the Hiv/Aids orphans unit, 41 kids are seriously ill/sick, down to bed with opportunistic infections the likes of Malaria, TB/whooping cough, anemia, Diarrhea, fever/flu/colds, it is absolutely absurd. -Remember, most of these kids lack sufficient beddings and because they are very many we can't afford to avail enough food, appropriate diet, medications. -Above all, PARDI is in urgent need of funding. Having seen the power point, you should be able to understand PARDI's challenges and obstacles to our efforts. -Sometimes, when I get to the field, I just start crying, real shedding tears, we are trying our best but we can't manage alone. We need the help of individuals. We seriously welcome all fundraising ventures and efforts from each and everybody who treasures the human race. Sisters and Brothers from the USA, for heaven's sake, the situation down here is absolutely alarming.
